Both Nestor and I have been blessed by your prayers and contributions to ELM’s various mission activities — and we send to you our heartfelt thanks! Because of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we all have been living our lives differently. We have had to learn to move around carefully while finding new ways of accomplishing our daily tasks, and the mission tasks are given to us by God.
But we remain confident of the outcome of our work for God because:
2 Corinthians 5:5 Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a pledge. (NASB)
This verse has been an encouragement to us as we adjust to this new reality. We feel secure in His promises and focus on new visions and doing His will regarding ELM’s Local and International Missions.
We want to share some of the blessings we have received through the various activities; and, we want you to know that we believe that you are at the heart of ELM’s work with your prayers and your generous donations do so much to sustain us.
LOCAL MISSIONS
We will once again host a “Jesus Birthday Party.” On the morning of December 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, we will celebrate our King’s birth by retelling the account of His miraculous birth, which was prophesied in so many OT passages. We will lead the children in singing “Happy Birthday Jesus” before handing out Christmas gifts to the children.
Champions Forest Baptist Church at Jersey Village collects these gifts as “The Angel Tree.” If you would like to participate, please contact us, and we will give you the name of a boy or girl. You can then purchase gifts for that child and mail them to our address, or drop them off at our front door. The last day to be able to deliver the gifts is on December 17.
INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
The Mercy Project is doing very well despite the heavy rains and flooding that is affecting the Guajira. These bad weather conditions have presented us with some special needs. The kitchen has no roof, so the firewood is wet even though it is kept inside their house.
ELM has helped overcome this problem by providing the finances to build the roof over the kitchen and purchase a gas semi-industrial stove with three burners. This has been a big help to the volunteers who daily help to make the Dining room a success.
The kitchen is used every day to cook for 20 children, 6 elderly Wayuus, and 6 volunteers. It is good to be able to report that these 20 children continue to grow and gain weight. Some of the children were cured of scabies, but other children continue to have it. The children are still receiving vitamins and supplements to combat the side effects of scabies medicine.
The Medical Center In Yawaka was supplied with medicine for the brigade scheduled for the first week in November. Unfortunately, due to the consequences of the flooding, the Medical Brigade activity has been postponed until the weather conditions permit. We know this medical assistance will be of great service to these people when it can be rendered.
Hebrews 10:35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. (36) For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. (NASB)
The confidence of ELM is based upon sharing the truth of the saving grace of God’s Gospel message. When people honestly place their faith in Jesus, who was sacrificed on the Cross to pay for their sins, they receive the Holy Spirit to indwell them, and they are saved from an eternity apart from our loving God.
Our fervent prayer is that ELM Local and International activities are rooted in being obedient to God by carrying this message of hope to a lost world.
We at ELM want to thank you for your prayers, contributions, and donations.
You have been such faithful and loyal members of our team. Together, we can bless others through ELM Local and International Missions by sharing the love of Jesus while supplying some necessities for healthy living.
We wish a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas to each of you and all your families.
